The Volkstheater theatre
Here, with its 830 seats you are awaited by one of the biggest theatre stages in the German-speaking world. It was built by the architects Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer, the Volkstheater theatre, formerly established as the Deutsches Volkstheater – the German People’s Theatre in 1889, offers its visitors a comprehensive and varied programme comprising Austrian, German and international classics combined with contemporary works and interpretations.
The Josefstadt Theatre
If you are a guest at our hotel a visit to the Theater in der Josefstadt – the Josefstadt Theatre is an absolute must. Our association with Vienna’s oldest theatre still in existence and use consists in a common history as well as our splendid neighbourhood. You have the opportunity to experience one of the most successful stages in the German-speaking theatre world!
The Burgtheater theatre
With the opening of the Vienna Burgtheater Theatre in 1888 a new impressive theatre space joined the ranks of Vienna’s theatre and acting scene, which is considered to be one of the major stages in Europe. The Austrian Bundestheater Theatre is the second oldest theatre on the continent. Nowadays, you can also go on an interesting tour of the building when there are no theatre productions on stage, which was completely burnt out during the Second World War and subsequently restored. Hofburg
As is the case for so many things in Vienna with their close association with the history of the Habsburg dynasty, the Vienna Hofburg Castle was the winter residence of the world-famous noble family for many centuries – the Schönbrunn Palace was used as the summer residence. The current official residence of the Austrian President gives you the opportunity to see various museums – including the famous Sisi Museum as well as the Weltmuseum Wien – the Vienna World Museum, the National Library, the Hofgarten Court Garden, the Conference Centre, the Schatzkammer Imperial Treasury and more parts of the castle building that are steeped in history.
Rathausplatz Town Hall Square
The Rathausplatz Town Hall Square, a 40,000 square metre wooded park, which belongs to the impressive Vienna Town Hall with its 98 metre tall main tower, invites you to explore. Throughout the year a large number of attractive events take place here, such as the Vienna Christkindlmarkt Christmas Market, the Vienna Little Ice Dream, the Wiener Festwocheneröffnung – Vienna festive week opening or the Life Ball, one of the most important AIDS charity events in the world, and these attract crowds of visitors.
MuseumsQuartier
You are most likely to encounter young travellers and city visitors with an interest in the arts in Vienna’s famous MuseumsQuartier museum quarter on Mariahilfer Straße street. Apart from a few smaller museums you can also visit the Leopold Museum, with its famous Klimt, Schiele or Kokoscha exhibitions as well as the mumok Museum of modern art. No fewer than 12 exhibition halls welcome visitors with top class art exhibitions, architecture collections or entertaining dance offerings.
St. Stephens Cathedral
Not far from where you are staying – directly on Vienna’s Stephansplatz square – the venerable St. Stephens Cathedral invites you inside for a visit. The world-famous object of cultural value and the city’s landmark – affectionately referred to as the “Steffl” by the residents of Vienna – impresses with its 136 metre tall south tower which houses 13 bells and an imposing interior with high arches, several side altars and colourful glass windows.
Vienna Austria Opera House
If you are a lover of high-class musical entertainment a visit to the Vienna Austria Opera House is a must. International music greats, such as Maria Callas, Anna Netrebko or Luciano Pavarotti have entranced demanding audiences. In addition to musical performances, nowadays you can go on short tours of the Opera House.
The Viennese Prater
The oldest amusement park in the world is spread over six square kilometres. You can’t help but enjoy yourself here. A big wheel, the landmark of the Viennese Prater, many and various traditional attractions and modern rides as well as the Planetarium based here mean that there is no end of variety here.
Mariahilfer Street
The more than half a mile long Mariahilfer Straße is one of the premium addresses in Vienna when it comes to strolling and extravagant shopping experiences. Depending on the time of day, visitors should gear themselves up to a bustling shopping experience. Numerous shops – both big and small, cosy cafés as well as a wide range of restaurants attract tourists and locals in equal measure as if by magic – it’s worth it.
